Another year has gone by. As always, I like to create a post about my favourite things of the year. This could be my favourite TV show, film, song, game or whatever. The only rule is that I must have discovered it in 2024. That means, even if it came out in 1981 if I first watched/listened/read/played it this year, it counts.
Let’s begin.
FILM:
This was tricky, because I thought I had an answer, but recently watched a film I enjoyed just as much.
But, I’ll stick with the recent film. I just had so much fun watching it. It was a film where I didn’t really care about the story that much. Don’t get me wrong, the story was good, but the characters were where it shined, and I was having so much fun watching it that I didn’t want it to end. I loved Hugh Jackman’s performance, he delivered so well, especially in that Car scene. I loved it, I watched it again when it was released on Disney+, and I’ll probably watch it again next year.
The winner: Deadpool & Wolverine.
Honourable Mentions: Knives Out, The Batman (2022)
SONG:
I always hate picking my favourite song. My music taste changes too much. Every year I end up adding over 200 new songs to my playlists, and I just never know what my favourite is. So this year I’ll give you a list of some ones that I just kept playing over and over. Some you may have heard of, some may not.

ANIME:
Every year, I watch less and less anime (This year there were only 6 shows). I just don’t have the time. It’s the same for TV Shows. I can’t sit in front of a screen and watch stuff like I used to.
But, I have an answer: Dandadan.
Can you blame me? I have been reading the Manga for a long time but the anime perfectly captures the manga and the creativity of it perfectly. The manga is fantastic so I recommend reading that, but only once you have finished the anime. Watch the amazing anime, then read the manga and cry with us as you wait eagerly week after week for the next chapter.
MANGA:
I call myself a big fan of Manga. I am a huge One Piece fan and a big fan of Naruto. But there was one member of the Big Three I could never get into, and that was Dragon Ball. After the tragic passing of Akira Toriyama, I decided to give it a read. And I get it. I understand the hype.
I was foolish for not picking it up sooner. It is fantastic.
A lot of people say that Dragon Ball did so much for Shounen Manga and I can see it. There are so many things that I read where I can see clear influences from Dragon Ball, yet Dragon Ball feels so fresh and unique, no matter how many times I read it. There is something so charming and captivating about it that I can’t fully explain. It gripped me, I didn’t want it to end. I read Dragon Ball Super after finishing Dragon Ball. I looked up clips on YouTube of the movies and shows.
Akira Toriyama, you have made a masterpiece that you should absolutely be proud of. You have created something that has inspired so many people. Thank you.
GAME:
This year, I know I played some games, but I don’t know what games I’ve played. The best way is to look back at my YouTube channel to see what I played. A lot of the time, when I record videos I create a backlog so I can guarantee I upload daily. There was one game in particular that I kept wanting to play, but also kept wishing it would give me more. It scratched an inch I didn’t know I had, but also kept me on my knees begging for it to just give me that one last thing. That game is Forager.
I loved Forager, I loved it so much that I created an insanely large backlog, and yet, if you’ve watched my playthrough, you’ll understand my complaints. The game does so much right and has so much charm, but the late game ruins it. Despite this, I loved it so much and would love to check out the modding community to see what mods can do. Also, I hope Forager 2 is real. I will buy it on day one.
TV SHOW:
If you asked me to name a TV show I’ve watched this year, I’d be sitting for a good few minutes trying to think of one.
I honestly have no idea. As I’m writing this, I’m trying to find a list of TV shows I’ve watched or that came out in 2024. I think I only watched one show this year.
The only show I did watch this year, was a good one. The Bear.
I love the direction in The Bear. The cinematography is fantastic and you can tell the directors have a love for the show with how ambitious and so compelling some of the shots are. You could write a long essay on the camera angles in the show alone. Besides the camera shots, the cast, story and everything about it is so captivating. A great show that deserves all the awards it got.
