The difference between what you say and what you want to say. People may not understand what you tell them. You may mean something different.
In a world of various voices, speaking is important but difficult. Language has many different meanings and interpretations. What you say could mean multiple things. You are probably taught that it is important to get your point across more than anything else.
But even then, is that good enough?
Many refuse to listen to your point regardless of how accurate or important it may be. People are so deaf to other opinions that finding someone who will allow a structured debate is rare.
The news and politics are all about the loudest voice. The loudest voice gets through to the crowd.
Your points should be clear and focused on what you mean.
I am someone who fumbles over my words. I trip over almost every sentence I say and struggle to get my point across. What I say, and what I mean in my head could be completely different things.
But just because I have said one thing, doesn’t always mean I’ve thought it. I may not know what I’m fully saying. It may take me some extra time to get my actual point across. Especially if there are people watching.
There is no reason to yell at someone over one mistake in their words. Listen to their full point, and understand what they are trying to say.
Don’t assume you’ve won the argument because they said something contradictory once. It’s easy to get into your head and lose your words.
Your voice is powerful, but listening and understanding is even more powerful.
The voice does a lot, but the brains of others do even more.
If you do not fully listen to someone as they are arguing with you, and trying to understand the reasons for why they are, then you have lost the argument in my eyes.
Shouting doesn’t prove you are right.
Making a mistake doesn’t prove you are wrong.
Be it politics, arguments, relationships, friendships or whatever.
Listen to each other.
Speak to each other.
Wait for your turn to speak.
That’s how a conversation works.
We may just be able to progress if we do.
