2022 is about to end. Honestly, I thought it was a very strange year. It was a year where I was forced back into many undesirable situations, but also a year where I had many moments I enjoyed.
This is the start of my yearly roundup where I discuss various things that happened throughout my life this year. As always, we start with the goals I set myself at the start of the year.
But, what did I do this year? Did I meet the goals that I spoke about here or did I fail miserably?
Well, before we get to that let’s speak about the year. This year I was very busy working. I got a job at the end of 2021 and stayed at that job for the whole year. It was an interesting experience, but it also halted many projects. Additionally, this year also saw the return of my anxiety and depression. In 2021, I could say that I was getting better, but 2022 really kicked me down. It really took a lot out of me mentally. It wasn’t any particular reason, but I started to see my own life fail before me. I started to lose hope in myself and my dreams.
As you’ll see, in 2022, I didn’t do as much as I had hoped.
So let’s talk about it.
To start, let’s talk about writing. My web novel, The Story of a Hero Named Fishy, went from bi-weekly releases to every 3 weeks and my promised three novels turned out to be a fat zero. I promised Oscar Pat 5 and Alterum 3, but Oscar Pat 5 is far from complete and I haven’t even started Alterum 3.
I also promised Gang Wars would finish this year, yet it didn’t, and it only saw very few chapter releases.
The only thing I did was this blog. I kept up this blog better than I thought, with almost consistent posts.
Putting writing aside, I spoke about music. I spoke about wanting to get back into the piano yet didn’t touch it once, and I spoke about writing music. The music writing bit is happening, but very very slowly. I want it to be perfect before I show anyone, and I have no musical composing training so I’m learning it all as I go. Hopefully, in 2023, I can show something off.
In 2022 I wanted to do more Blender work, but again, hardly opened the software.
Now, let’s talk about the positives, and what I did do:
YouTube and Twitch. I did get back into those. I did release multiple “big” videos and even finished the project that I spent years working on. I slowly started to return to live streaming at the end of this year, and have been enjoying it. I’ve been trying to upload as much to YouTube as possible, and have gotten back into daily uploads for the last few months.
Finally, let’s talk about game development, the most productive thing I’ve done. If you didn’t know, I’ve released multiple games this year. Most are small mobile games, but one is a big Steam game that will sadly never leave Early Access. I’ve spoken many times on this blog about those, so if you wish to find out more, you can do so here.
I have kept developing and making more mobile games and hope to keep doing it.
I hope to keep updating my Drinking App and keep making more. I have many ideas in the works and am working on all sorts of projects.
But I can talk about those in a later post…
To wrap it up, let’s talk about Podcasts. Arbitrary Echo did kinda return, and One Dice didn’t. Maybe 2023 will be their year.
These are statistics as of December 1st 2022, so they may change by the time the year ends.
To end, let’s talk about the stats.
Game Stats: My mobile apps have achieved over 7000+ downloads if you combine all their total downloads this year. My steam game, Battle of the Four Towers, has around 1000 installs.
Writing Stats: This blog has had 43 new posts and many changes to various pages over the year and around 23 thousand words have been written for it. My web novel, The Story of a Hero Named Fishy, has only had around 29 new chapters. As for novels, I don’t know as I haven’t released anything. These numbers have dropped from last year, the reason why I mentioned them above.
YouTube/Twitch Stats: I have streamed only around 20 times this year. That’s a lot less than the 96 from last year. I took large breaks from Streaming this year to focus on work and game development, but I started to get back into it towards the end.
However, I uploaded around 114 videos to YouTube this year. It’s kinda easy to do since I’m just cutting down my streams into several parts. One 2-hour stream will often give me between 4-6 videos so the numbers make some sense. I only played 3 different series on my Twitch. Most of my videos came from my Breath of the Wild playthrough and my modded Minecraft playthrough, but I also released several one-off videos on my channel which helped pump the numbers up.
Well, that’s it.
Thanks for reading.
That’s all for the roundup. 2022 was a painful year. I spent a lot of it going out with friends which I enjoyed, but it also made me understand how repetitive and boring my life had become. It made me realize how little I was doing that I enjoyed, and how painful it was to live a life like this.
Let me know in the comments if you had any goals that you met or failed to meet.
