Drink To That is a mobile drinking game I released earlier in 2022. Since its launch, it has had a few major updates and a complete redesign.
So, let’s compare the old and the new.
Let’s start by showing a bunch of old screenshots.

You might look at the images and think they don’t look bad. And honestly, you’d be right. It does the job for what it should do. However, sadly there is a lot of strict competition in mobile games and one of the most significant factors is graphics. If the game looks bad it won’t even get a single download.
The game stayed with this design throughout. The game had 2 major updates, both of which added new game modes. I always wanted the selling point of this game to be the variety of cards and game modes, so I knew before it was released of the many extra game modes I’d make.
Once the game was made, I wanted to release it on iOS. iOS are a huge market but also a strict one. They have a spam policy in place that stopped the game from being accepted, however, I still wanted it to be on iOS, so I got it redesigned. I worked alongside a professional graphic designer and friend in redesigning the whole app. Most UI was changed and new features were added. A few of my favourites are player Icons and how the game looks when playing a mode. You can see in one of the images how the game looks when playing. It’s much cleaner.

The difference is night and day, but this redesign wasn’t without its hardships
Most modes needed an update, and the one that changed the most was the custom rules screen. Even in the old version, it was a buggy mess. I didn’t even realise that it crashed the game easily. it was mostly untested, but this new version required a lot of testing. If you’ve played the game and made a few custom rules you may know what I mean. The rules in play appear at the top separate from the others. This seems simple but requires a lot of work. I’m not the best at using all of Unity’s UI features, so I had to learn a lot of new stuff. Despite this, I hope people will enjoy the custom rules they can create and maybe even discover a hidden modifier or two.
As for the future of the game, there are a few major updates planned. I won’t say what I’ve got planned, but there will be at least two new game modes and one new way to spice up the night. As always, all updates will add new cards to all modes and fix other broken cards. If you’ve played the game and found a card that doesn’t work or seems out of place, comment below and I’ll fix it.
Thanks for reading. I haven’t got much else to say. This game is super fun to play with friends. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. But, remember that you must be of legal drinking age to play. Be sure to share, like, comment and follow.
