Gang Wars Chapter 14: The Prison

Inside the depths of the Capital’s central building lies a large underground prison. This prison contains all of the greatest threats, anyone who could get in Tom Reilly’s way was locked up there. The number of people inside the large cell was 28, but that number just became 29.

Kyle’s body was chucked in by Clown who didn’t even stop to talk before moving out on another mission.

The light wasn’t entering that deep down. All they could use were tiny little buzzing lights above to see one another. Kyle cautiously looked up at everyone else but saw no reason to be defensive. Everyone in that cell was thin enough to see their bones. Their faces were skeletal as their dead eyes begged for a swift death.

Kyle crawled to the space at the side of the room where he used his clothing to create a support for his broken leg.

“You aren’t the only one.” A decrepit voice called from the darkness.

“What?” Kyle said as he turned to the old man that was speaking.

“Most of us entered with broken bones. Just keep still, you’ll need the energy.”

A vomit-inducing smell entered Kyle’s nose as a fly buzz swamped the room. He was familiar with a smell as he’s had his fair share of time around dead bodies. But suddenly, his focus was drawn to something else.

“Good morning!” A call echoed throughout as a voice came through various speakers. “Welcome to the Capital, Kyle.”

It was Tom’s voice.

“What do you want?” Kyle said.

“Rude. We haven’t really had the time to talk much and this is how you act.”

“You killed your sister. Why do you think you deserve any kindness?”

“I understand…” Tom said. “I really do.”

“Then come down here and let me kill you. Your life, for hers.”

“HA!” Tom bellowed. “Not a chance. We will never see each other again. You’re staying in that cell to rot. If you’re lucky, I might let your friends join you.”

The call cut off as the speakers returned the painful silence to them.

“You have a history with him?” The old man asked.

“It’s a long story…”

“We’ve got time.”

“I don’t…” Kyle had no intentions of speaking anymore. He shut his eyes as he focused on keeping his leg straight. He couldn’t tell what time of the day it was, but he knew that didn’t matter anymore. As he had ages to figure it out.

The first day passed of Kyle’s imprisonment, it was easier than he thought.

By the second day, he got used to the smell and those around him.

At the end of the week, he understood little bits about everyone else, and why they were captured. The people in the cell with him all snuck into the capital to end Tom’s life.

“Every now and then, someone is taken away and doesn’t return. That big robot takes them, we think they are experimenting on them.”

“What kind of experiments?” Kyle asked.

“We don’t know, but this place isn’t some kind of lab. It’s obsessed with machinery so they are most likely used to test machines.”

Kyle sat in thought, thinking about the test, and he’d do so for the next week.

By the end of the third week, his leg had healed. He could walk it on it again, but it still needed another week before it’d be back to normal.

“You heal quickly.” The old man said, slowly eating away at a loaf of bread, but unable to eat any more than 2 bites.

“Thanks… It’s just how it’s always been.”

The next day, Clown would appear to take people away. He took two people at random. They’d never return.

“More food for us.” Kyle joked.

The food situation was the worst part. They only ate 2 times a week, and it was always hard stale bread. It was enough for most, but for the oldest, it was impossible to last any longer.

By the end of the 4th week, the old man had passed in his sleep. His weak body had given up as his body was taken away by Clown.

Then, in the 5th week, Fishy was given terrible news when Clown returned.

“A gift from Tom.” Clown said through a robotic, computerised voice.

A single piece of paper was entered in the cell. On it was a picture of his friend John sitting in a pool of his own blood, covered with bullet holes.

He was fine sitting inside the prison.

He was fine with suffering alone.

But this was enough.

“TOM!” Kyle shouted as he bashed his hands against the metal bars, “I know you’re listening.”

Silence.

“TOM!” Kyle shouted again with rage.

However, the angrier Kyle got, Clown intervened.

A gun was placed against Kyle’s head as he looked up at the robot towering over him. His eyes were fierce, feeling no remorse.

“Calm down.” Tom’s voice called out through the speakers. “All I did was kill a criminal. That hacker boy is certainly hard to find though…”

“Brilliant.” Kyle said, “I’ll use that excuse when I hold your heart in my hand.”

Tom would normally have replied, but he could feel the threat. Kyle was sitting many floors below him. Tom resided in the Capital building, directly above the prison.

“Clown, Kill him,” Tom called out.

“WAIT!” Another voice suddenly jumped in, this time a feminine voice that spoke from Clown’s robotic body. “We can use him.”

“It’s too risky.” Said Tom, “He needs to be dead or locked up.”

“Clown will be watching him. He’ll never escape.”

“What are you planning?” Tom asked as he ignored the people around him.

“His body is perfect. He’s flexible, highly intelligent, and has incredible reflexes. We should have used him as a lab rat from the start.”

Tsk.

Tom kissed his teeth in disgust as he knew he couldn’t deny it. He was close to his goal and the girl spoke the truth. Even if he’d feel better with Kyle dead, his goal was more important.
