Gang Wars Chapter 9: The Regrets

Had the clock not told him the time, he wouldn’t know how long he was out for.

Scott pulled his head off the car’s dashboard as sweat had almost stuck him to it.

His eyes were still as blurry as before, struggling to see the world around him as he furiously rubbed them. He could just remember what happened. April’s face was clear in his mind as he recalled Kyle’s orders.

“Shit!”

His eyes darted to the clock in the car, luckily always on.

10:50 PM.

Scott came to 3 hours later.

In his sudden panic, he dug deep into his pockets, fumbling around as the seatbelt restricted him. He rapidly punched the release button on the seatbelt as he started to feel the pain in his chest from where it had intended in him as he slept.

“Come on… Come on…” He repeated as if his life was in danger.

And then, once it finally pinged out, he went back to ripping his phone out of his jeans pocket.

It was natural panic that caused him to act this frantic. Any human would feel the same level of worry and stumble around.

But as he finally got blinded by his bright screen. He quickly placed his phone to his ear as he called Kyle.

“Kyle?” He said once Kyle picked up the phone. “I’m sorry. I messed up. April’s gone.”

Earlier in the day, Kyle had met up with Lewis in hopes of him joining the group. Their discussion was more of a disagreement, as Lewis seemed distrusting of Kyle. Which was expected.

But Kyle was confident that Lewis would show up to their meeting point at 11PM.

The current time was 10:45PM, a few minutes before Kyle will be informed of April’s disappearance.

Kyle waited around in the same car factory he met Lewis in, having snuck in since there were no guards.

The entire facility was empty.

Or so Kyle thought…

“You’re early,” Kyle said as he looked towards the shadow that approached him. He knew it was Lewis because his eyes had adjusted to the darkness he sat in.

“Sorry,” Lewis said, “I want to get this over with.”

“That’s fine,” Kyle said as he slowly stepped over to Lewis, slowly raising the gun in his right hand as he pointed it towards Lewis.

“Who are you?” Kyle asked as he stared down at the almost identical man in front of him.

“What do you mean? It’s me, Lewis.”

“Where is Lewis?” Kyle asked as he moved his finger to the trigger. But before he could do that.

BANG!

A single bullet flew past his face from in front of him, but it wasn’t Lewis that fired, as his arms were still lowered. Kyle quickly darted behind the closest cover he could find, a large metal post that held up the roof.

“You found out quickly…” Lewis’ clone said. “They call me the Overseer. It seems I’ve been tasked with killing you.”

“How nice,” Kyle said as he readied the gun in his hand, whilst also gazing towards the knife he kept secure in a sheath by his side. Kyle was ready. He had been preparing for an attack for a while. His heart was bumping with joy as he wanted to take the first steps around the pillar to attack.

However…

Ring Ring.

Kyle’s phone rang from his pocket. He didn’t want to pick it up at first, but after checking who it was from, he had no choice.

“Is everything already over there?” The overseer asked as he slowly walked forward.

“Kyle?” Scott said once Kyle answered the phone. “I’m sorry. I messed up. April’s gone.”

There are 533 Reilly weapons factories in the world, and 27 of them are in The Capital. To be able to know which one her brother would show up at would be considered pure luck to some. But to her, she knew where she was going. There was one factory that they always visited growing up. Their parents wanted them to be involved with the family business, and this one factory was close to where they grew up, as it was connected to one of the Reilly estates.

The factory was just a short mile drive from a shipping port, conveniently placed for exporting all the weapons they made.

With an hour to midnight, April entered the premises. She cautiously held a tiny pistol in her right hand as her footsteps echoed along the cold floor. Her eyes cautiously roamed around with her, checking even the darkest corners of the room. But that’s all there was. Darkness.

The factory had been closed down for a few years, any equipment that was once there had been moved to the latest location. All that remained was a large empty room, with various leftover cardboard boxes, filled with undesirables.

“Tom!” April called out as she listened to the echo. “I’m here! Where are you?”

“APRIL!” Tom’s ecstatic voice bounced around the room, shaking with excitement. “How nice of you to come. I mean, I knew you would because I’ve known you the longest. We are brother and sister, after all.”

“What do you want? What do you want with me?”

“How’s Kyle?” Tom dodged the question. “Are you two still together? Did you get back together?”

“Why are you asking that? You know the answer.”

“But I want to hear it from you.”

April’s eyes were desperate in trying to find out where his voice was coming from. In such an empty room, how was it that Tom was nowhere to be seen?

And that’s because he wasn’t there.

Scattered around the various walls, floors and corners were tiny little speakers that his voice emitted from.

Since April didn’t know this, it was her mistake.

She was wrong to come alone.

BANG!

A single bullet flew at her from behind, piercing her back as it escaped through her chest.

She could hardly turn around as she saw his face directly behind her. It had been several years since they last saw each other, but he looked the same.

“Why…?” April said as her cold body crashed against the floor.

Kyle also knew what factory April would go to. Because of how close he was with her he knew of her past and how she grew up.
