2021: Did I achieve my goals? (Yearly Roundup)

2021 is quickly coming to an end, and it’s one hell of a year.

It’s the year I keep calling 2020 by mistake because 2020 just feels that long. But let’s talk about what happened this year.

Because this year is about 2021.

This is the first part in my usual end of year series where I’ll be going over the very brief thoughts and statistics of the year.

To start, I finally got my graduation ceremony. I technically left university in 2020, but it wasn’t until September 2021 that I was able to meet up with all my friends again for a proper celebration. 2021 was also a year where I started to fight back against the mental health that was forcing me down. There was always something stopping me from doing basic things in life, like getting a job, but this year I tried to change that. Which ultimately led to a part-time job. At the time of writing this (December 2nd), I haven’t even started and I’m still in training, so it’s all scary and new for me. And I’m terrified. But I’m trying. I’ve spoken many times about my mental health in various posts that you can find here and here.

2021 was also the year where my finances took a major dip, but my productivity went up. To quote the meme, ‘in terms of money, we have none.’

I was able to get a few funds here and there from book sales and streaming but it was never going to be enough to support myself.

In 2021 a lot of my hobbies stayed the same. I still love Japanese idols and will always be idol trash. I returned to streaming and kept a somewhat constant schedule and had tons of fun.

I still played video games slightly less and kept up with programming, albeit very little.

But in 2021 I did lose some things. Sadly, I stopped drawing due to motivation issues and also stopped reteaching myself the piano. I also lost my 400+ login streak on Pokemon Shuffle. Luckily I still have my 1000+ login streak for the Love Live game.

Now, let’s briefly see what I said this time last year, with my goals for 2021.

To start, I spoke about releasing 1 or 2 more books. As you’ll see later in this post, I blew that away. I released 10 this year, a massive increase from my initial 1 or 2.

I also spoke about my web novel, The Story of A Hero Named Fishy. There I wrote that it may finish this year, sadly it didn’t. Season 1 didn’t even end. Due to other projects, Fishy went on a lot of breaks so progress was slowed.

I also mentioned a project for YouTube that involved making a game. Whilst that project is somewhat closer to completion, it sadly won’t be ready for this year.

My most ambitious goal for 2021 was writing a Webtoon. That is still a huge goal for me, and I still want to do it. But since I stopped drawing, that won’t happen any time soon.

To quickly end this part of the post, I said I wanted a girlfriend and I didn’t get one. As for learning Japanese, I did take a little break from it but got back into it at a very very very slow pace.

But anyway, let’s get to the exciting part, the statistics.

These are statistics as of December 2nd 2021, so they may change by the time the year truly ends.

In 2020 I wrote and self-published 3 novellas/novels. In 2021 I wrote and self-published 10. I managed to triple the number from 2020! And if you want a word count, the rough word count is around 334,542 words. (This number doesn’t include any blog posts or web novel chapters). Of course, some of these books were shorter than most and one was even a rewrite, but I’m still counting it. Back in 2020, this number was only 120,846 for novels/novellas. So a big increase.

As for the blog, I wrote 37 blog posts (36 if you include this one). With a word count of around 37,961 words.

In 2021 I had one web novel going throughout, The Story of a Hero Named Fishy received 39 new chapters (as of December 2nd). Whereas Gang Wars, which had been on break since 2019, has received 2. The rough word count for the Fishy chapters that were released was around 39,136 words.

In 2020, I roughly worked out the total word count for blog posts, novels, and web novels being at around 208,376 words. It’s an impressive total, probably more than the average person. But in 2021, the total of all books, web novels and blog posts is around 411,639 words. A pretty impressive number. To compare it, The 3 Lord of The Rings Books total around 481,103 words. (although most of my word counts came from 10 different novellas, in which Lord of The Rings is only 3 novels)

As for Twitch. I streamed 96 times this year. Honestly, that’s way more than I thought I would do.

I uploaded a massive 262 videos to my YouTube channel.

Wow.

Almost 1 video a day. I managed to keep up one video a day for most of it. Thankfully, I was able to upload my streams into editing parts which turned them into “Let’s Play” formats, so that is mostly the reason the number is so big. I probably could have gotten closer to doing daily uploads, but I remember when uploading my playthrough of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, I was uploading 3 videos a day because of how many there were left to post, and I wanted to move on.

I played 13 full games on my Twitch and uploaded them to YouTube. (This number doesn’t include one-off games like Dicey Dungeons or Hearthstone)

As for podcasts, I started my own and it currently only has 3 episodes, but hopefully, more will come someday in the future.

And for Arbitrary Echo, only 18 episodes were released this year. Arbitrary Echo went on a long break, and hopefully, it’ll return with a more frequent schedule soon. Only 9 episodes were uploaded to the Arbitrary Echo YouTube Channel, and that’s something I wanna work on.

Alright, I think that covers most things. This is the first of three posts in my usual end of year roundup, so make sure to follow to be notified when those come out. I’ll be rating my favourite games, songs, films and more as well as talking about my goals for 2022.
