Gang Wars Chapter 8: The Alliance

Splitting up wasn’t the first thought in Kyle’s mind. In fact, it was one of the last. But it was due to recent habits that caused this decision.

Ever since leaving The Cassettes, he had gone independent. Everything he did was down by himself. And of course, when you leave something as notorious as a gang, it is often impossible to escape your past. For the first year, he was constantly being attacked by those that despised him, old memories he made when he protected the streets. People who thought were his friend ended up only wishing to get close for a chance at revenge.

But no attempt worked.

To say he distrusted those who were once his closest friends was harsh, but also the truth.

It was too suspicious that they were found out so quickly. He knew The Claws had complete control of The Capital, so it wasn’t far-fetched to think they would try and use those once close with him to find out more.

But these fears of betrayal were now conflicting with his feelings towards April. Leaving April alone was probably the worst decision of them all. With Tom roaming around there was no saying when he could strike. But there was even less chance of being able to tell what April was thinking.

But Kyle wasn’t without a plan, and he desired to quickly return to April as soon as possible.

Before The Claws existed, and the Cassettes ruled The Capital, there were a few people that Kyle wanted to keep a close eye on. Some of these people were old members, and some were just random friends he went to school with.

And one such person was as innocent as the world once was. They were a sweet and polite child that grew up beside Kyle when they were both only 5 years old.

His name was Lewis, and according to Kyle’s information, he was one of many members a part of The Claws.

The claws had many members, but almost all of them were sacrificial. Lewis was one of those pawns.

Kyle had hunted him down to the east of The Capital. He resided as a car mechanic, a skill that The Claws wanted for weapons manufacturing.

And as Kyle roamed the early morning dark streets, with his hood up, he approached the steps of the warehouse that Lewis resided in. Covered in grease, dirt and mud, it wasn’t to Kyle’s liking, but he knew he wouldn’t be there for long.

Lewis was always stacking boxes in the early mornings. He was the one that was given the boring gruelling early morning setup jobs since he was the most recent. Each box needed to have its contents counted and compared with the orders of the day. If they didn’t have enough parts then Lewis would have to order them, whilst telling the customer why their car is going to be delayed.

He was given all the harsh boring tasks with zero time to become hands-on.

And then, as he was stacking random boxes in the corner of the room…

“Lewis…” Kyle quietly called out as he watched his surroundings, slowly lowering his hood to the greasy brown-haired Lewis as he turned around, surprised to see a criminal standing before him.

“Kyle? What are you doing here?”

“I need to talk to you… I need a favour.”

“You’re a criminal, why would I listen to you?”

“Because I’m trying to stop the gang that you are involved with.”

Lewis knew more than Kyle believed. Before the bounties were publicly announced, every member in The Claws already knew about them. They were given a special opportunity to collect the reward before the public could.

“The Claws are taking over The Capital,” whispered Kyle. “Even at this moment, they are watching you, a member, to see if you are doing as you’ve been told. They probably already know I’m here so you’ll have to make a decision.”

“What? What are you talking about?”

“You’re part of The Claws, so you must have seen it. You must know what it’s like. You must know about me and the time when the capital was safe and no longer filled with crime.”

Kyle’s eyes were fierce as Lewis let him speak, he couldn’t argue, not because it was true but because there was a gun against his head.

“Well,” Kyle said as he slapped Lewis’ blue jacketed arm. “It was good seeing you. I’ll come to collect my car tonight. You’ve got my details.”

Kyle walked away having slipped a tiny little note into Lewis’ chest pocket. The note contained the details of where to meet at night.

But before that, Kyle didn’t know that things were about to get worse

“Thank you for staying with me, April,” Scott said as the two were sitting in an underground empty car park as the sun was setting outside. A few hours had passed since Kyle’s meeting with Lewis, he was yet to return and April was ready to venture outside with Scott. “It’s only a few parts but it’ll be easy to carry. I’ll feel safer with you there.”

“Don’t mention it. It’s Kyle’s orders…”

April sat beside the steering wheel as she waited for Scott to buckle himself in. The sleek beige interior complemented the pitch-black darkness of the outside. It was a car that was fit for a collector, but also someone with unrivalled wealth.

And after a little buckle…

“Ok, I’m ready… I’ll tell you the directions,” Scott said, but April didn’t start the car.

“I’m sorry…” She said as she turned over to Scott, “But I need to find my brother.”

“What?”

Before he could even realise what was happening, gas started to fill up the inside of the car. His vision was going blurry and he didn’t even notice the mask that April covered her face with.

The sleeping gas filled the car quickly, and Scott’s face collapsed down forward with a large thud.

And once the door opened, and April stepped out, the gas started to escape.

With her watchdog out of the picture, she had only one goal left, to find her brother.
