In Regards to Social Anxiety

It feels like your every action is being judged.

It feels like everything you do is constantly being talked about by those who know you.

One perfectly normal thing seems like a mistake and you can’t stop thinking about it.

You think that you’re being laughed at in secret.

You think that everyone is watching you.

You think that everything you do is wrong.

But, none of the above is true.

I think like what I’ve stated above, even if I know it is not true. The reason for this is that anxiety is a spiral, and it’s not easy to unravel that spiral.

But, that’s for another time.

These thoughts cause you to keep to yourself, worried that if you do anything then others will note it down and remember till they die.

You have to be silent because it’s the only way not to get hurt.

It may feel like the world is taunting you but that isn’t true.

Everyone makes the exact same mistakes you do. Every human who has lived, and will live, will make mistakes. Without mistakes, we are not human.

It ultimately comes down to understanding that your mistake isn’t the end of the world. The mistake you think others are talking about barely crossed anyone’s mind.

Let’s think of an example of what happens. Let’s say, you’ve raised your hand in class to answer a question. The teacher picks on you and you stumble across your words. No one in the class bats an eye to the most common mistake. But your mind is telling you otherwise. Your mind has convinced you what they are all thinking, and they are all laughing at you.

The human mind is the most complex thing in the world. And it’s also the worst thing in the world. Your own mind taunts you and beats you until you don’t know what to do.

These thoughts can stay with you for your entire life and never go away. Events that occurred years ago are still there, as you think of those that probably remember it, and are still laughing at you for it.

But in reality, none of those things are true.

Personally, I’d like a world where if someone makes a mistake, we understand it and move on. We don’t dwell on it or yell at them for it. We sit down and understand.

I suppose I’m writing all this for myself. Because I need to convince myself of what I’ve written above.

If you’re experiencing similar thoughts, you are not alone.

I can’t tell you anyways to improve as I’m no professional, I can only give advice based on personal experiences.

And I think you’ve got to push yourself.

There was a time when going to school was scary, but the more you did it, the less you cared.

The more you do something, the less you’ll care.

At first, it’ll be terrifying. Absolutely horrible.

And you may still experience these thoughts.

But they’ll go.

The clouds continue to move, as will you.
