2020: My goals for 2021

2020 has ended.

I’ve already spoken about 2020 and if I’ve achieved all that I wished to achieve, and in this one, I’ll be talking about my plans for 2021. What I plan to do, things I want to do, create, explore, who knows.

So, let’s get into it.

A big part of my life is writing, although I do it as a hobby, I do it a lot. In 2020 I released 3 novellas, and in 2021 I’ll be releasing at least 1 if not 2. The second instalment in the Oscar Pat series will definitely release in 2021, and maybe the third will as well. But, I’ve also got another idea for a novel that I wish to write, so after Oscar Pat 2, I might do that.

My web novel, The story of a hero named Fishy, will still be updated weekly if not more. Maybe it’ll finish within this year but it’s unlikely as I have a lot of plans with it, maybe season 1 will finish in 2021 if not 2022. But whilst I remember I want to quickly state something about it.

The Story of a Hero Named Fishy isn’t my top priority and probably never will be. The chapters are short for a reason and that’s because I’m doing a lot of things on the side. Regardless of their length, I do try and make sure they are up to a certain standard. Now, that standard may not be as high as some of my other stuff, but I think the more recent stuff has been better than most. It may be upsetting to hear this if you are a fan of the series but it’s true, and sadly, once Fishy ends my time writing Web novels probably will as well, I’m struggling to enjoy it as much as I used to with Continuous School.

As I’ve always said, writing is a hobby so never expect perfection from me.

(although, I would love to do another web novel that would be similar to Continuous School)

As for this blog, I’ve written 31 posts last year.

One final thing before moving on, I thought it’d be cool to work out how much writing I did this year, so below is a little image showing the numbers

Forgive how messy it looks. I only thought about making this last minute

As for YouTube, I hope to upload and stream more. I can’t say if it’ll happen but it’s a hope.

The Arbitrary Echo podcast and YouTube channel will still continue as always (hopefully).

I don’t have much to say on YouTube, just that I hope to keep it up.

As for Game development, I can’t say. It feels like a waste of a university degree, but I can’t see myself forgetting how to code. I do plan to keep it up as a hobby, but I also had planned this year to integrate my game development with YouTube. I had a plan for a YouTube video about a little game that I’d make but never got around to making it as I’d require me to learn how to make an online game (which I have no skills with), so I put it a bit far back on my to-do list.

In terms of drawing, I’ll keep it up. I’ll do as much as I can, but it’s something that I struggle with finding motivation for as I just feel like I’m bad at it.

I’m going to keep doing little rough doodles but would like to try and do some more complex stuff that involves some characters from my novels.

However, that brings me on to the next topic.

I’ve always wanted to create a Webtoon. Webtoons were what inspired me to go into writing. I knew I wanted to create stories to share with the world but lacked the talent to draw, so writing them was the next best thing. But since I first had that idea about 3 or 4 years ago, my artistic skill has come a long way (it’s not amazing but it’s much better than before).

Although it would be the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, I’d love to give it a go.

I’m not confident in my drawing ability or my storytelling through drawing. I remember I used to create comics when I was younger and had stacks of them, but they have since been destroyed and I can’t really remember anything about them.

It would be an interesting challenge regardless of the outcome, but as I said above, there is a lot I want to achieve and doing it in one year is a lot of work. Seeing as I edit and upload all YouTube videos for Arbitrary Echo and the podcast episodes, plus weekly web novel chapters, plus writing the second Oscar Pat story and another novel, also the blog that you are reading this on, and my own YouTube channel, and making video games in my spare time with friends which I haven’t fully given up on yet, plus live streaming.

So this probably won’t happen this year.

It sounds like a lot and is. But I’ll keep trying. I feel the most comfortable when working on something, and hate to sit around doing nothing. Even if I’m super stressed and annoyed when working it’s better than doing nothing. (probably a bad mind-set to have but whatever)

As for some minor misc things: Obviously, I’d love to get a girlfriend and meet the love of my life, but I’d also like to start getting a bit serious with learning a new language. At the moment I’m able to read Japanese Hiragana, so It’d be great to learn Katakana and also some Kanji (It’d probably also help if I learnt some words as I can just read them but have no idea what they mean).

I also want to get back into learning an instrument. If you didn’t know, I played piano for 5 years but gave it up when I went to university. I have a variety of instruments but the one I really want to get good with is the ukulele. Around summer of 2020, I played it a lot, but stopped for some reason. So if I’m going to learn any instrument this year, it’ll be that.

That’s all for my 2021 goals. I failed my 2020 goal of creating a drawing I’d want to hang on my wall but at least I did other things instead.
