Welcome to the second part of me talking about my short stories. If you missed the last part you can find it here.
But in this part, I’ll be going over the final three short stories. If you haven’t read them, you can check them out here:
The Outside World:
I’m a big fan of superheroes and superpowers. But the only thing cooler than superpowers is how messed up the world would actually be. I wanted to take a slightly fresher twist on the idea. I believe that chances are, super powers would be farmed. People would be forced to give birth to people with powers for other’s benefits.
My Hero Academia talks about this a bit, and I guess The Boys on Amazon Prime does as well, but my world was slightly different. In my world, all that was left was the camps where people were raised, superpowers had destroyed the world and outside was nothing. I was going to continue this idea as a web novel, but decided not to.
I really like the idea of the person who can read minds escape from the camp and explore the wasteland to uncover the truth, but I guess I never got around to it as I had different priorities.
I still think it could make a cool Netflix show.
Survived the Crash:
This is a very personal story to me because it’s something I’ve thought about many times. My mind isn’t ‘normal’ and actually thinks about this type of stuff a lot. I’ve always hoped for an easy way out, but one day I thought about what if my life was prioritised.
To quickly be a bit negative, in COVID times, the sad truth is that if two people were in need of urgent medical attention, chances are the younger person would get the help over the other person, because doctors would want to save the next generation.
But I thought about what if I asked not to be saved but was instead. I decided to write down what could happen. It came out similar to my own thought, but was also filled with “typical story elements” like having a female character who would be there for the guy. Obviously there’s no guarantee this will ever happen in real life and is mainly just fiction.
It has a bit of an open ending with the status of the guy being unsaid. You can believe what you want about it, either a sad ending or a happy ending. It’s up to you.
The white rabbit:
What is the white rabbit? I don’t know. What’s the white rabbit about? I don’t know.
The white rabbit is one of my personal favourites, and I admit that it makes no sense, but that’s kinda the point.
The original inspiration for it was something I dreamt. It was almost a word for word copy of the dream I had. I dreamt I was stuck with the last survivors of humanity, one of them heard a car, we all heard a dog bark, we returned to find a cowboy, and then the white rabbit appears.
As soon as I woke up from the dream I had to write it down. Something about it captured me and I just loved it. Although there are one or two differences, in the dream, the cowboy does a bit more. He actually ended up getting disarmed in the dream. And, I’m pretty sure the white rabbit in the dream was much scarier, it had red eyes and was something everyone ran away from. I remember having to force myself awake because of how scared I was because of the rabbit. (Maybe I should have made it a horror)
This was surprisingly fun, If I ever write a few more short stories then I’ll be sure to follow this up with a third one. There were two short stories that I never finished writing so maybe I’ll see about looking into those (Most likely won’t)
Although I do have one other post tagged as a “short story” (This one), I see it more as me just talking my thoughts and not really a short story
Thanks for reading.
