22/7 Anime (REVIEW)

The idol anime 22/7 has just had its final episode so here is my review of it. I will mention slight spoilers but there may be some early stuff (like episode 1 or 2 stuff and I’ll try and keep it out of context) and I’ll try not to compare it to other idol anime. I’ll review it based on what it is.

First off, I didn’t like the first 2 or so episodes. The premise was stupid. I’ve seen a few idol animes and I think that this story was weak. The idea of a wall creating the group is dumb and I really hated the idea. There doesn’t need to be this idea to bring the group together.

This show is cute. The characters are pretty unique and fun. They each have their own quirks to them and watching them and their lives isn’t as boring as you’d expect. But, my problem is that all these girls seem to have some sort of backstory. There is nothing wrong with having the characters just being a nobody. Maybe they just want to be an idol because they like idols. It doesn’t have to be more than that. It’s not bad that they all have backstories but seems a bit over the top from an idol anime as there isn’t much singing and dancing like there is in others.

The animation. I really liked it. I thought it looked good. The 3D stuff is as strange as you’d expect but whatever. It doesn’t show up much so it’s fine. I think the animation improved towards the last few episodes and the show definitely picked up pace towards the last few.

As for the music, it’s decent. It’s not bad but I’m yet to find something that needs to be in one of my playlists. This is purely my opinion so you might love them. I’m not going to tell you they suck because they don’t. They are decent songs. They can all sing but they aren’t memorable to me (apart from one within the early episodes but I won’t mention it).

Sadly here is the worst part,

Bringing back to the topic of the story, the build-up (if that’s what you want to even call it) to the last episodes with all the backstories were the best part but the final episode was so awful that it shouldn’t be a part of the show. The idea of idols going along with some dumb wall is stupid and it’s clear it wants to be mysterious but it just fails to be anything more than frustrating. The final episode ruined it all for me. In the end, it feels as if nothing happened in the whole show. Like the group was formed and there was nothing more.

I said I wasn’t going to compare but at least in Love Live the groups have a goal that they are aiming towards.

Overall, I expected to hate this show, and I did, then I didn’t, then I did again. I really wanted to give up on it but kept going cause I like idol anime. Idol animes aren’t amazing but they usually aren’t bad. This is just another idol anime. Although it did get more interesting in the last few episodes (and then really ruined in the last), it wasn’t anything amazing. I will keep up with the group and keep listening to their new stuff in hopes to find something I like.

5/10

(the reason for the low score is mainly because  the last episode is that bad)

Thanks for reading! This is all my opinion so you may love it and there is nothing wrong with that. I just felt this way about it and that’s ok.
