Continuous School Chapter 13: The Transfer Student Part 2

[Monday, Lesson 5 – L4L]

Back in good old L4L and it was my turn for the topic, or at least it would be if some love-struck idiot didn’t abandon us and leave our table to talk to her.

“So I guess it’s just us today Sean…”

“It’s kinda upsetting to see him move on, you know they say you lose a few friendships when you get in a relationship.”

The words that just came out of Sean’s mouth shocked me, never in the 5 years, I’ve known him have I ever heard him say something that smart. Maybe he is really hiding something from us.

“I think we should hold off on the usual discussion for today. The fourth rule states that all members must be present.”

As upsetting as it was, we had to hold off. Ethan had moved to Kaylee’s table and was talking up a storm.

I guess he still doesn’t know…

“What’s the matter, you two idiots seem down.” Ruby walked over to us and sat down in Ethan’s chair. Filling the empty void within our hearts.

“I don’t know what to do about Ethan.” I replied.

“Hmm…. it’s definitely an issue if he keeps going on like this. But, you guys are really close and you’ve all been through a lot together, I’m sure you’ll all comfort him when the time comes. If I was you I’d let things work on their own. No point trying to force it.”

Ruby was right, we should leave him alone. We’ll just have to be there supporting him from the shadows.

“You know, I never knew you could say something so smart. Maybe you do have a heart.”

“EH? What are you saying? I can’t hear you cause your head is so far up your own arse.”

“HAHA, you two are just like a married couple.” Sean added.

I take back what I said about Sean being smart, he’s an idiot.

“HA! LIKE I WOULD EVER MARRY THIS DICK.” Ruby proclaimed.

“I wouldn’t want to marry Ruby, I’d rather marry you Sean then marry her.”

“Aw thanks, man.”

“Whatever, I’ll leave you now. idiot.”

“Wait, why did you come over here in the first place? Was it to see Owen?”

That’s right, you tell her Sean. I knew you were smart, I’ve been rooting for you all along.

“Yeah Right!… I just wanted to talk about Ethan that’s all.”

[Monday, After School]

Lesson 6 ended with nothing interesting happening. Sean ran off to football practice and Kaylee had to stay behind for a bit to talk to the teacher about everything she missed in lessons up till now. Ethan was going to wait for her but she didn’t want him to.

Which is why we are now waiting for her by the school gate where she will have to walk passed to leave.

“Dude, why are we waiting. She said she didn’t want you to wait. It’s too cold to be standing outside like this.”

“Of course she said that she is very kind and considerate.” Ethan was always smiling whenever he talked about her.

He really has feelings for this girl, huh?

“You don’t have to wait with me you know, you can go home yourself.”

He probably wanted it to just be the two of them, but, I didn’t want to leave him alone.

“Nah, it’s fine I’ll wait with you, you’ll be lonely by yourself.”

….

Moments later Kaylee left the building and we could see her walking towards the gate.

Ethan slowly walked up to her whilst I stood back and watched.

“Kaylee!” Suddenly a voice called out from beyond the gate.

Ethan turned around to look for the voice calling her.

“SIMON!” Kaylee cried out as they both ran into each other’s arms.

They both stood there hugging for what felt like ages. All Ethan could do was watch.

“I’m sorry Ethan…. I heard from Ruby about him…. I didn’t know if I should have told you or not….”

Ethan didn’t reply.

We both stood there silently as we watched them walk off hand in hand smiling happily at each other.

“h-hey… Owen…” Ethan’s voice was in pain, trapped inside himself wanting to cry.

“Yeah…”

“Do… Do you wanna go get something to eat?”

I couldn’t see Ethan’s face but I didn’t need to. It was obvious how he was feeling

“Sure thing buddy. Come on… I’ll buy you something.”
