Gang Wars Chapter 3: The Trap

Surprisingly, this wasn’t the first time I’ve had a ton of guns pointed at my head, what we do is dangerous work and we are prepared to die at any moment. There are three ways this can go,

1. I talk them down

2. We escape

3. We die.

Let’s hope we don’t have to meet the third option.

“Come on now guys, no need to point guns at us we are just trying to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and cake…”

BANG

Before I could do anything, a bullet flew past my face grazing the side of my cheek, piercing the window behind.

“Ok, I see you guys aren’t interested in talking, very well.”

CLANK

THUD

The only sound within the whole of the cafe was the sound of a something heavy hitting the floor, everyone’s was distracted, but before anyone could look to see what it was, smoke flooded the room.

SMASH

The sound of glass breaking signalled the shooters, causing them to fire randomly into the smoke.

BANG BANG BANG

Within seconds the smoke cleared to reveal several victims, laying on the ground within puddles of their own blood. Kyle and April were nowhere to be seen.

“Quick, get in, I don’t think we were followed.

After barely escaping alive we ran back to my flat. It was the only safe place I knew off but we can’t afford to stay here for long.

“I’ve called a car it should be here soon.”

“No, I don’t think we have time.”

“Why not, you said we weren’t being followed.”

“We don’t know how many there are, we don’t know who could be on their side we could have just cornered ourselves again with no plan of action.”

Kyle was uneasy, he kept pacing up and down the room with no goal in mind, trying to think of a plan. As he was pacing up and down he notices, a car pull up outside, three people exit the car and enter the building all holding automatic guns.

“…We have to get out of here, we can’t wait for the car. They are already here.”

“How are we going to escape?”

“Hmm”

Kyle continued to pace up and down the room before pausing and moving over to the window. Kyle opened the window as wide as it would go and looked down checking to see if anything was below.

“Here, you’re flexible, you should be able to make it if you climb down from here.”

“We are 8 floors up!”

“So, you’ve fallen from worse.”

“What are you going to do then?”

“I’ll go down the front and sneak past them.”

April disapproved of the plan. It was too risky to attempt to leave from the front but we were out of options.

“Ok, I trust you. However, we won’t be able to wait around. Once you’re at the bottom meet me at the old base.”

“Got it!”

April began her descent down the side of the building, carelessly dropping down and landing on any ledge she could find without thinking about what was below, making it to the bottom and escaping in less than two minutes.

“Looks like she made it, time to move out.”

Before leaving Kyle searched his room for a dark jumper to cover his face and took a knife from the kitchen. Preparing himself for the worst.

The stairwell within the apartment was the only way up or down, the lifts had been out of order for months. Kyle moved slowly towards the stairs preparing to go down, carefully listening to everything around him.

The stairs were silent, no one was outside. Kyle began his descent down the first flight of stairs hoping to avoid all danger.

Before touching the bottom of the stairs, footsteps could be heard rapidly getting louder.

Kyle couldn’t afford to panic, he had to stay calm and composed with a tight grip on the blade in his hand. There was no turning back now.

Kyle took another step, but the sound was getting closer.

“Hey, Stop, What are you doing!? Who are you guys!?”

A mysterious voice came from the floor below. Kyle didn’t want to intervene but had to keep moving. Slowly making his way to the top of the stairs where he could see two figures talking.

“Shut it! If you make any more noise you’ll be dead

CLICK

Kyle understood that he could no longer afford to play it safe. Running down the stairs as quickly as he could trying to guarantee the kill.

“What the…”

Before the guy could figure out what was happening, Kyle’s knife had pierced straight into his skull, leaking blood all over the floor.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

The scream of the women sent shivers down Kyle’s spine. Realising that his presence was about to be known and that the others would be close he jumps down the next flight of stairs. Meeting his next victim.

Without hesitation Kyle dove passed him and stabbed him from behind, leaving him to bleed out.

Kyle ran all the way to the ground floor where he encountered the last guy. Holding a pistol to Chris’ face.

“Put down the knife or this guy dies!”

Kyle stood there watching him. Within the blink of an eye, Kyle threw the knife towards them, resting it right in between his eyes. His lifeless body fell to the floor releasing his grip of Chris.

Kyle approached the body to remove the knife.

Having removed the knife he cleans up the blood using the clothes of the guy he just killed, he got off as much as he could before hiding it on himself.

Chris was panicked on the floor unable to stand. Kyle looked towards him without revealing himself and said nothing, the exit was in sight.

“Wa…wait!”

Kyle stopped and turned to Chris.

“A.. ah.. th.th.thank you!”

Kyle continued to say nothing, he simply smiled and walked on.
