Gang Wars Chapter 1: The Claws

“I wanted to escape all this. There was a reason I ran away and hid my identity.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, There is no way you could escape from me, my love.”

“So you still haven’t moved on? I thought for sure you would be angry at me for betraying you”

“Ah that’s right, I’m meant to be angry at you. Doesn’t matter anyway the car is here to pick us up.”

An armoured car came from around the corner perfectly on cue, as expected from one of the richest families in the world, their wealth never fails to amaze me.

The windows were darkened all around us so I couldn’t see where we were going, but it was obvious to me that April wanted to just take me back to her house.

“So what exactly do you want?”

“Hmm, let’s just say that a huge problem has appeared and it threatens us.”

“Well, we disbanded almost a year ago, I’m not surprised it’s all become a mess….

What does this have to do with me anyway, I’m no longer a leader, I’m just a University student trying to live a normal life, none if this Gang War shit.”

“But without us, The Capital is full of crime again, The Cassettes were the perfect deterrent for crime, we ruled the streets and even the government couldn’t stop us! Why don’t you just come back to us, Kyle?”

“I told you, I wanted to move on, we lost too many good people, a lot of innocent people with families died because people tried to rival us.

Do you know how many good people died because of us? We caused the deaths of thousands of people, and if you think that I am going to return this easily then you are greatly mistaken, I will not have a repeat of what happened last time.”

“…”

We both sat in silence till we arrived, April wouldn’t look me in eyes but that’s for the best.

“Miss April, we have arrived”

We both stepped out the car, I was right. In front of me was a huge mansion owned by the Reilly Foundation, one of the richest groups in the world, on the surface they own many different banks and businesses, but deep down they make and smuggle guns and weapons to sell on the black market.

The eldest daughter of the Reilly Foundation, April Reilly II. A 20-year-old drop dead gorgeous brunette, she has both power and beauty. April is in line to take over the Reilly Foundation. She is currently the family favourite to the annoyance of her brothers

“Ah Master Kyle it has been so long, how have you been?”

Good to see they still have the head butler from before. An amazing 77-year-old kickass butler dressed exactly as you would expect.

“Good to see you, Gerald. Don’t really want to be back here but apparently; I don’t have a choice.”

“Haha, very funny young master.”

“I thought I told you to stop calling me that, I’m not your master.”

“But you were once ‘King’, remember back when you weren’t as much of a pussy as you are now.”

April was clearly still mad about me not wanting to have people die again.

“It doesn’t matter if I was once ‘King’ just like how you were once ‘Queen’ those titles went along with everything else.”

“Ah this is just like old times, the two of you can never get along.” Gerald said reminiscing of a past I want to forget.

After spending a bit of time talking outside and arguing I eventually was convinced to go inside. We went in and moved straight to the dining hall where we all sat down and discussed the topic at hand whilst Gerald went to prepare some drinks for us.

“As you are probably aware another Gang has appeared. They go by the name ‘The Claws’, as far as we can tell they have one overall leader who runs the whole show from inside The Capital. Apart from that, we are also aware that they have a number of different Generals.”

“So what’s so bad about that?”

“These Generals control the whole of the Capital from the inside, although the government won’t admit it, they haven’t been in control for a few weeks now. On the outside, it looks as though everything is perfectly fine, but secretly the inside of The Capital has been turned into a world where going against the leader is punishable by death. People are constantly being monitored that even if you say something when you think you are alone you are still at risk.” April explained.

“So it’s seen as treason?”

“Exactly”

“And how many have died from this?”

“Our numbers estimate to be somewhere nearing 30 thousand.”

“30 Thousand!. You’re trying to say that 30 thousand people have been murdered in The Capital and no one can do anything about it?”

“Well, these numbers have slowed down recently, we suspect that it’s because people have learned the lesson, even telling someone else the truth inside The Capital is punishable.”

I could tell April was really worried, anyone would be, there are almost 10 million people living inside The Capital, and every one of them has a target on their back just for saying they wish they were somewhere else.

“Do you see now why I came to you? Although no one knows who you are you protected millions of people, there may have been a few casualties but you never harmed innocents. You worked in the shadows and saved those in need whilst kicking those that abused their power. Kinda like a Robin Hood. Whereas these guys are slaughtering those who disobey for no reason.”

“Let’s say I do help. What’s the plan?”

“We… We don’t know, every time we send someone into the capital to spy they are killed and never return. We are lucky enough to know what we do.”

“I see…”

The problem was definitely dire. If ‘The Claws’ could get enough numbers to spread to the whole country then everyone would be in lockdown, at that point the best cause of action might just be to destroy the whole country.

The government clearly want to keep it all hidden from other countries. I’m guessing so do ‘The Claws’. If other countries got involved it would be difficult for them. But… what do they even want?

“Do we know what their goal is?”

“Sadly not, as far as we can tell…”

CRASH

“What was that?” April panicked.

“It came from the Kitchen… I’ll go check it out, stay here.”

“Kyle, take this, it might come in handy.”

April handed me a dagger, it resembled the one I used to use.

The kitchen was connected to the room we were just in, which is why it was so loud. Gerald was in there preparing drinks for us.

I’ll call out to him and see if he is here.

“Gerald?” I whispered.

The kitchen seemed empty, quickly dashing my eyes across, no one was here. It was quiet.

Where is Gerald? I’ll try calling for him again.

“Hey, Gerald? You there?”

“Kyle?” A voice appeared out of nowhere.

“Gerald? Is that you? Where are you?”

“Turn around…”

Huh? Was Gerald’s voice always that deep?

I held the dagger tightly before spinning around as fast as I could, before they could react I held it up against their neck, cutting them enough to show some blood.

“Wow Kyle, calm down.”

“Who are you?”

This guy was calm for the situation. He was an expert. A trained assassin just like me, his eyes were locked onto me, analysing my every move.

“I’m surprised you don’t remember me. We went to school together, remember? The name is Tom. ring any bells?”

“Hmm”

Tom Reilly. April’s younger brother, he was the reason I met April. He helped with The Cassettes before I kicked him out for breaking 2 of our most important rules. Thinking about it, he looks exactly as I remember, exactly like a Male version of April, except he seems to have gotten a scar under his right eye.

I’m surprised he is here, after I kicked him out he disappeared for good. His carefree attitude is what causes problems, he was always planning something in secret and couldn’t be trusted.

“What do you want? Where is Gerald?”

“Don’t worry about him, he is just having a little rest, he should be up in a few…  Do you mind putting the knife down it’s a bit intimidating?”

It was risky to remove my only advantage, but I needed him to talk and if he would do it without the dagger then I’ll get rid of it.

“Thanks… Anyway, rumour has it you are after ‘The Claws’.”

How the hell did he know that? Was he listening in on us this whole time?

“And what if we are?” I needed to make sure I didn’t leak anything.

“Hmmm, well… that’s a good point, anyone who says anything bad about them gets killed right? Also, those General people aren’t as bad as they seem.”

“You speak as if you know them personally.”

He definitely heard everything, this could be bad.

“I guess you could say that… really you should die here tonight, but if I started fighting you and my sister got involved I definitely wouldn’t be able to win two on one.

So I’ll let you off with a warning this time.

If you try and come after ‘The Claws’ then next time you and those around you might not be so lucky. Anyway, that’s all, I’m off back.”

What a troublesome person.

“Not going to say hello to April?”

“It’s ok, there is already a day set where April and I will meet again, and that day will be a day to remember. the day the future of the Reilly Foundation comes crashing down.“

eh?

This guy is insane, he wants to destroy the whole of the Reilly Foundation? Not only do they have tons of weapons at their disposal but they also control so much economic power.

“Bye Bye for now.”

Tom casually walked out of the kitchen towards the back door, dodging April. This is why I can’t stand him.

After that, I went back to see April. I’m surprised she stayed back, I expected her to come with me and fight.

“What was it?” April asked.

“I guess you are getting your wish after all.”

“Huh?”

“I’ll help you take out ‘The Claws’. But this time, we won’t make the same mistakes as before.“

To Be Continued Next Week.
