If someone told you that you would suddenly die, would you believe them?
Would you stay away from everything?
Would you live the remainder of the day as if it was your last?
What if they could prove it to you?
What if you believed them?
Only an idiot would believe them.
So why did I?
…
I don’t remember what day it was, I was walking to see a friend from school.
I got to a crossing and had to stop and wait for the light turn green, then he approached me.
A normal looking guy, who was wearing a weird coat that almost touched the floor, he probably was in his early twenties.
First, he asked me for the time.
It was ||:||.
Then he asked me what day it was.
I told him ||||||||.
He then smiled at me and said
“I see.”
I was creeped out at first, all I could do was smile back awkwardly, hoping the light would change soon.
I pulled my phone out my pocket hoping that maybe I could use it as an excuse for him to leave me alone.
It was then that he told me
“What if, You were going to be hit by a car on |||||||| at ||:||?”
I looked up at him, his face was plastered with a creepy grin as if he had just robbed a child of their sweets and felt no sympathy.
I didn’t know what he meant, what he said was so stupid.
But he was inside my mind.
What if I was going to die?
There is no way, right?
Right?
…
The light turned green and I returned back to reality.
As I crossed the road the man stood there.
Looking at me.
Watching my every move.
I could feel his gaze.
Halfway across the road, I hear him laugh.
I stopped.
I didn’t want to stop.
Why did I stop?
My heart was in pain.
I squeezed my chest as hard as I could gasping for air.
The pain felt real
Everyone else who was crossing was walking past as if nothing was happening. As if I wasn’t there.
There was nothing I could do, maybe what he said was true?
maybe I was going to die at ||:||?
The laughing stopped and the pain in my chest disappeared
I quickly pull out my phone to check the time.
…
It was almost time.
I look behind me to see if he was still watching, I couldn’t see him.
I quickly turned around in panic to try and find him, but he wasn’t there.
…
I arrived at my friend’s house a little before |pm, I don’t remember exactly what his house looked like on the outside, it was blank to me, I can only remember a small little birdhouse attached to a low down fence, I had always wondered why it was there.
His house was full of merchandise and movie props, he collected all sorts of junk, none of the movies were familiar to me. It wasn’t long before we decided to leave to get something to eat. We walked into town to eat his favourite, whatever it was.
The walk into town wasn’t far, or was it? I can’t remember how we got there, I was too distracted at my watch.||:||.
No one was in the cafe if it was even a cafe, there were two people working there, as we walked through the doors they looked at us, they didn’t say anything and they didn’t break eye contact. My friend continues to walk in whilst I was stuck at the door. The fear felt real, It was like they were looking through me and were judging my whole life.
“|||||, |||| ||||| ||| ||||?”
Huh?
“||||, |’|| |||| ||| || ||||| ||||||”
What are they saying? Why can’t I hear them? I can see them moving their mouths but nothing is coming out, I try to speak myself.
…
…
…
…
I can’t get the words out, Nothing is working, I feel like I’m suffocating on my own blood as if my lungs had flooded with anxiety. I close my eyes hoping everything was a dream and counted to 3 in my head.
